What is the ‘true’ function of a church (building) besides?

jesusgirl asked:

I know that is where we are to come together to worship but isn’t the building more than that???
My church (the pastor) gets ragged because we don’t have a building fund going or a bank account drawing intrust or programs going ALL the time to make money for the church!!! I just don’t get it??
we’re a small church, building paid for, we have free programs to help the community, we have dinners for the people in the programs and a few of us volenteer our time and cooking skills. When there is a funeral we are there three days (sometimes 2) and keep the coffee going cook a meal for the family after the funeral. We do this for everyone if they need us to not just members.
we don’t run programs, even to S.S. class, it is whatever God lays upon the teachers heart that is taught.
I guess I’m venting a little but I really don’t understand what the church is there for?? Any one know???
Please don’t say something off the wall!! :o)
John S. read in Acts what is says a church is sopost to be doing!!!! We do 1 & 2. well all I can say to you is WE are blessed beyond measure as a church building and the body of Christ!!

BEEN there DONE that asked:

Ok the thing is that i want to be a real estate/foreclosure investor.

I know a lot about the process, but how to pay for a house at auction if you have little to no money. I need advice on hard money loans or the right loans for foreclosure auctions. Please give me real advice on how to get the cash and be able to take it to auction to get the house that i researched on.

I read countless books on the subject and know much to almost everything about the process of auctions to home renovating, to having the right connections. The thing i want is a real real estate investor or foreclosure investor not to judge me for my age which is 19. I can definitely succeed in this game no matter what anyone says about housing bubbles and prices.

Please give me real advice on the subject from someone who does it, i don’t really care what one has to think about the housing market, or my age cause im going after my goal/dream but i don’t know how to start…PLEASE HELP!!!!

Estate settled in 2006 but lawyer still sending bills?

Kassie asked:

We settled my fathers estate in 2006, he passed in 2005 and we are still getting lawyer bills even though 1) the lawyer said he would drop the rest of his charges less what he already received 2) the lawyer didn’t help that much, we as the children ended up with nothing where-as my uncle ended up with all my fathers personal belongings as well as forcing us to sell my fathers shop to pay back mortgage.

It was in the State of Montana, the lawyer did recieve 16,000 from an auction that was held that sold all of my fathers welding tools from his shop. All 3 children recieved 10,000 and no personal belongings. The firm basically kept dragging it out, we signed multiple agreements to settle the estate but last minute my uncle would change his mind (we ended up settling against him which made no sense why we even had to deal with the man) he was allowed to go onto my fathers property multiple times and take whatever he wanted and the lawyer never filed anything for it

Looking for a Family Movie about two brothers finding an airplane?

MIPilot asked:

I remember a movie from several years ago about two friends or brothers that had gone to an estate auction and bought the contents of a barn for something like $5. While they were cleaning it out they found an old biplane in it and learned how to fly it. Anyone know this movie and remember its name?

Could I still be useful?

Jessie asked:

I’m in college for my second choice of a major: recreation and tourism. I love the outdoors and work for the park service. It’s a pretty good fit. I’m not like a tour guide; it’s like developing recreation programs. Basically it’s an outdoor version of business administration.

I know I should have picked the major I wanted but let others talk me out of it. Between that and not being sure if I wanted to deal with this for 40+ years. Kind of a strange ambition for a child, but I always wanted to be a mortician.

Even though I’m trying for government jobs which are generally more stable than private recreation companies; the funeral industry is always a safer bet because it’s a career that will always be needed no matter what happens to the economy. After I decided to go to a four year university for rec. and tourism I always kept the option of going back to mortuary science college if I wanted a switch in careers. It’s just now as I’m entering the final few semesters of my degree I’m looking back and wondering if I made a mistake by choosing this field instead.

Do you think I could make the transition if I wanted to try? Recreation and tourism is strictly dealing with people: there’s no way in avoiding that. It’s pretty closely related to a business career since it involves legal and financial aspects and it is operating and marketing a business. If I do switch careers; I will have a four year bachelor’s degree from one of the leading universities in the region. Even though it’ll be past history by then; but I’ve worked for a cemetery from the time I was 16 to the time I graduate college. It’s not a funeral home; but at least I’m familiar with the funeral process and have been around it quite a bit.

I know I’d have to have the proper training and meet the standards to be qualified as a mortician. But do you think with my career past that I could switch over successfully to the funeral industry? Thank you.

My house is in forclosure and was put up for auction last week. Can anyone tell me where to go from here?

K B asked:

I bought a house in another state with plans to relocate. Business in the area of the new house I bought shortly fell through after the purchase - putting me in a serious financial bind. I was only able to make 4 payments and decided it was best to stay in my home state.

A real estate professional offered to assist me with a short sale but no one was interested. He told me he did all he could do 4 weeks ago. I have found out the house was not worth what it was appraised for let alone what I purchased it for. I only found it was being auctioned when I did a search on the property. By the time I found out, the auction date had passed. I have received no letters because I am in my home state. And I have not talked with the mortgage company since my first missed payment.

How I should proceed from here? What should I expect? Should I call the mortgage company? If it has not sold yet, what are my options?

Thank you in advance for those who provide feedback!
